About the Job:

 

A new opportunity for a Senior Employment Legal Counsel to join a growing team at a leading Global Bank. In the role, you will be managing and advising the business about employment law-related matters, compliance and risks in line with the group strategy across EMEA. As well as developing employment policies and procedures across EMEA to drive people management in line with business vision and strategy. You will ensure policies and procedures are up-to-date and driving the best outcomes for employees and the Group.

 

You will provide commercial employment legal advice to key stakeholders about employee relations and employment-related matters across the UK & EMEA region, enhancing the organisation’s knowledge of employment law and ER matters.

 

 

Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

 

  • The bridge between Legal and HR.
  • Delivery of consistent employment legal advice to HR and management.
  • Providing commercially sound advice and judgement in line with the culture and Group objectives.
  • Working closely with the Employee Relations, Policy and Case Director to provide input into effective ER processes, procedures, practices and principles.
  • Providing legal advice to HR and management on complex ER cases and facilitating external legal advice where needed.
  • Partnering with external counsel on disputes that arise, mediation or tribunal cases.
  • Working closely with the Employee Relations, Policy and Case Director to provide legal input into HR policies and procedures ensuring accuracy and regular review.
  • Developing and ensuring compliance with local employment legislation and regulation of employment documentation including contracts and employment changes.
  • Assessment of employee risks and proposing viable commercial solutions to management to complex employment and legal issues.
  • Ensuring up-to-date knowledge of employment law and regulations to ensure our people's practices are legally compliant.
  • Providing strategic employment legal guidance on regulatory matters, such as pensions, GDPR and remuneration policy.

 

 

Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

 

  • Qualified lawyer or similar qualification.
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent knowledge of UK and EU employment law.
  • Strong expertise in advising on complex ER cases, drafting employment documentation and policies/procedures, performance management and restructuring.
  • Experience gained within financial services or law firms and a strong understanding of the regulatory environment is beneficial for this role.
  • Proven influencing skills, experience dealing with multiple stakeholders in a complex structure including being able to influence staff at the most senior level.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Strong listening skills.
  • Ability to confidently and articulately undertake challenging conversations to persuade sceptical audiences, resulting in the best outcome being achieved.
  • To be open and approachable and operate with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Experience in financial services laws and regulations would be helpful.
