We are supporting our client, a Lloyd’s insurer, in their search for a Underwriter and Team Leader, to join the business in their amazing Birmingham offices on a full-time, flexible hybrid basis. Working on average 2 days a week in the office and 3 days at home, you will be utilising your experience in Underwriting, to cover matters across a variety of marine business.

In this role, you will be primarily responsible for managing and leading a team of underwriters across Cargo, Freight and Engineering. The role is not limited to supervision as you will be expected to provide technical expertise.

Some of your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in maintaining a balanced and high-quality portfolio, optimising information gathered.
  • Liaise with Operations Manager and assist with the implementation of new initiatives, processes, and procedures.
  • Liaising with other departments to ensure collaboration and services levels are maintained to high standards
  • Working with underwriting teams and providing training for new team starters.
  • Working on-site with the intermediary/customer, undertaking end-to-end handling for the allocated portfolio to deliver the agreed joint business development plans.

The right candidate for this role will have an in depth understanding of the Marine business and must have leadership experience.

The client requires an individual with a high level of proficiency in underwriting cargo, freight, engineering and other relevant channels. This role requires an individual to have demonstrated knowledge of local markets and to have advanced expertise in evaluating insurance policies.
